Adult Gi Jiu-Jitsu in Takoma Park
The traditional uniform, the deepest technique in the sport. Adult gi classes at our family-owned GFTeam academy — mornings before work and evenings after it. Your first class is free.
Jiu-jitsu in the uniform it was built in
Gi training is Brazilian jiu-jitsu in its original form: you wear the kimono, and the cloth becomes part of the technique — collar grips, sleeve control, chokes and escapes that only exist because the uniform does. It is a slower, more deliberate chess match than no-gi, and it is where the deepest understanding of leverage in the sport is built. At WDC BJJ, gi is the backbone of the adult program.

Grips change everything
Collars, sleeves, and lapels give you control points that don't exist without the uniform — and give your partner the same. Gi rounds reward patience and precision over speed.
Escapes get honest
Being held down by someone gripping your uniform teaches real escapes. If you can get out in the gi, you can get out anywhere.
The full technique library
Collar chokes, lapel guards, and grip-based sweeps — a whole branch of jiu-jitsu that only exists in the gi, taught here from white belt up.
It carries over
Most of our adults train both gi and no-gi. The control and detail you build in the gi make your no-gi sharper, and the movement from no-gi makes your gi faster.

You don't need to own anything to start. Book a free trial and train your first class in comfortable athletic clothes — no pockets or zippers — with a water bottle. Arrive 15 minutes early and check in at the door. If you decide to enroll, your uniform is included free.

What our community says
This gym provides an incredibly welcoming environment for all ages, experience and fitness levels. The lead instructor, Deivid Dias, is an excellent teacher who truly cares about the BJJ competency levels of his students as well as their well-being. He works everyday to maintain a safe and professional atmosphere in the gym. I would highly recommend this gym anyone interested in learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
I have been with GFTeam DC for 8 years now, and I am a purple belt. Deivid Dias has been a wonderful instructor and has helped me climb over many obstacles to get to where I am now. It’s because of this school that I have increased my endurance levels, met new people, and have become part of a huge Jiujitsu community where everyone wants each other to succeed.
The atmosphere and community are unlike anywhere else! The coaches and programs are incredible and everyone is welcome! I highly recommend for youth and adults alike!
Everything you're wondering
Dedicated gi training runs Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 7:00 AM, and Friday at 6:00 PM. Gi technique is also the backbone of the 6:00 PM beginner sessions, Monday through Thursday.
Yes. For your free trial, wear comfortable athletic clothes with no pockets or zippers and bring a water bottle. If you enroll, your uniform is included free — for kids, youth, and adults.
Start with the 6:00 PM beginner sessions, Monday through Thursday. They are built for new students: fundamentals in small steps, at a pace set for people in their first months.
In gi training you wear the traditional uniform and use its collars, sleeves, and belt as grips — it rewards patience, precision, and control. No-gi is trained in athletic clothes and leans more on movement and body control. Most of our adults train both; our Adults No-Gi page explains that side.
Two to three sessions a week is the rhythm most beginners grow fastest on. Consistency beats intensity — pick the days you can actually keep, and the technique starts to compound.
Programs vary by how often you train, and we don't publish membership prices online. Come try a free class, and we'll walk you through the option that fits you — with no contracts or long-term commitment.
