Adult No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu in Takoma Park
No uniform, no grips on cloth — just movement, control, and timing. Adult no-gi grappling at our family-owned GFTeam academy. Your first class is free.
Grappling without the uniform
No-gi is Brazilian jiu-jitsu trained in athletic clothes instead of the kimono. With no collars or sleeves to grip, control comes from underhooks, body position, and movement — it is the grappling style used in MMA and the most direct translation of jiu-jitsu to everyday clothing. At WDC BJJ, no-gi is built into the adult week, not treated as an afterthought.
No-Gi Drills
Thursday's 7:00 PM session runs as No-Gi Drills inside the advanced schedule — focused repetitions of no-gi technique at a working pace.

Saturday at 10:00 AM is No-Gi Open Mat — your rounds, your pace, with coaches on the floor. The week's lab for testing what you drilled.

The women's-only program trains no-gi on Mondays at 6:00 PM — one of three women's-only sessions each week.
Women's Program →What no-gi builds
Movement first
Without cloth to hold, position is everything. No-gi teaches you to move, scramble, and recover guard with your body — skills that sharpen every other part of your game.
Real-world control
Nobody wears a kimono on the street. No-gi control — underhooks, head position, wrist control — works on ordinary clothing, which is why it's the self-defense side of grappling.
The MMA connection
No-gi is the grappling base of mixed martial arts. If your interest in jiu-jitsu started with watching MMA, this is the room where that grappling lives.
A complete workout
Continuous movement, full-body resistance, real problem-solving under pressure. Adults come for the skill and stay for what it does to their fitness.
Just bring yourself
Book a free trial and wear comfortable athletic clothes — no pockets or zippers — with a water bottle. Arrive 15 minutes early and check in at the door. Beginners start in the 6:00 PM sessions; coaches will point you to the drills and open mat when you're ready.

What our community says
I have been with GFTeam DC for 8 years now, and I am a purple belt. Deivid Dias has been a wonderful instructor and has helped me climb over many obstacles to get to where I am now. It’s because of this school that I have increased my endurance levels, met new people, and have become part of a huge Jiujitsu community where everyone wants each other to succeed.
This gym provides an incredibly welcoming environment for all ages, experience and fitness levels. The lead instructor, Deivid Dias, is an excellent teacher who truly cares about the BJJ competency levels of his students as well as their well-being. He works everyday to maintain a safe and professional atmosphere in the gym. I would highly recommend this gym anyone interested in learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Professor Deivid and Charlene are super supportive and know just how to challenge you. Everyone is extremely welcoming and kind. Highly recommend trying out a class.
Everything you're wondering
Thursday at 7:00 PM runs as No-Gi Drills in the advanced schedule, and Saturday at 10:00 AM is No-Gi Open Mat. The women's program also trains no-gi on Monday at 6:00 PM.
Comfortable athletic clothes with no pockets or zippers, and a water bottle. That's the full kit list for your first class — there's no uniform to buy to try it.
No. Beginners start in the 6:00 PM beginner sessions, Monday through Thursday, where the fundamentals are taught for both styles. When you're ready for the Thursday drills and Saturday open mat, the coaches will tell you.
Whichever fits your schedule and interest — most of our adults end up training both. Gi builds grips, control, and detail; no-gi builds movement and body control. Our Adults Gi page covers the other side.
No-gi grappling is the grappling style used in MMA, and its control positions and escapes translate directly to real clothing. It is one of the most practical ways adults here train.
Programs vary by how often you train, and we don't publish membership prices online. Come try a free class, and we'll walk you through the option that fits you — with no contracts or long-term commitment.
